Elisa shows poor results compared to other forms of testing. Elisa can be used in a two tier system – Elisa if positive is then retested against a Western Blot to ensure that the result is not a false positive due to cross reactivity. Sadly patients showing a negative result would not be offered WB & so their disease may never be picked up until more accurate testing is made available to the general public.

5 year incidence per DED showed clustering of 5 year incidence rates above 151 per 100,000 in an area of west Galway called South Connemara in this West of Ireland Lyme Mapping Project.
